People’s Choice Car Show Brings in a Crowd

Saturday, June 30th was a busy day in Dresden. Nearly 100 vehicles consisting of 48 corvettes and 45 other sporty, unique and classic cars were all on display in a rainbow of color in the 500 and 600 blocks of Main Street. Corvettes from the Kanawha Valley Corvette Club in Charleston, West Virginia were present as well as several hot rods, historic vehicles, muscle cars and even a milk truck and old fire engine!

The event was to carry on regardless of rain or shine but the weather was absolutely beautiful. The temperatures were high, but many shops were open to allow people to get out of the heat and do a little shopping. S’more Baskets was the host for registration, refreshments and the Kid’s Car Show. Children under twelve were invited to bring their favorite model cars and compete for prizes in three categories; Best Collection, Most “Loved” and Best Hot Rod.

Awards were given to first, second and third place winners in various categories like Best Engine, Sponsor’s Choice, Best Interior and Best Paint and of course one car, a 1947 Cadillac Convertible owned by Rick Little took home the award for best of show. The corvettes were judged separately with additional categories added which included Women’s Choice, Men’s Choice, and Club Choice. Special Longaberger Baskets with custom name badges were given to all winners as a special award and keepsake. The entire list of winners can be found on our website, www.DresdenBuzz.com.

The People’s Choice Car Show was organized by the Dresden Community Association. DCA President, John Larson said, “It is nice to see so many people come to Dresden, a lot of cars, people walking the streets and shopping.” He also is looking forward to a bigger and better show next year. Linda Bowers, volunteer event coordinator, added, “The turnout has been fabulous”.

Many out of town car show attendees remarked that they did not realize that there were so many shops. The Dresden Community Association is excited about events like these because they help to build awareness that there is still so much to do in Dresden.
