Mitten Tree Project Helps Families In Need During Christmas

Christmas is a joyous time of year. That joy can sometimes be overshadowed by worry and stress for needy families. The realization that they can not afford much if anything for their child or children can be a horrible feeling. The magic of Christmas is an important experience for children and the Frazeysburg Lions Club has been hard at work each year to preserve a little of that magic for local families.

The Lions Club Mitten Tree Project pairs wishlists of gift items for children with kind-hearted businesses, organizations, families and individuals who wish to help ensure a child receives something for Christmas. The wishlists are typed on a mitten-shaped piece of paper which is then hung on the tree and displayed in Benzer Pharmacy (formally Johnstons Pharmacy) in Frazeysburg. The wishlists are completely anonymous. Only the age (11 and under) and gender of the child is known as well as sizes of clothing and some of the items the child needs such as winter coats or hats, clothing and of course a couple of toy ideas are listed as well.

The mittens stay on the tree until someone selects one or a few to take with them to fulfill the items on the list. Items are returned to the pharmacy in a trash bag and labeled with the mitten so it can be picked up by the family in plenty of time for Christmas.

If you wish to brighten a family’s Christmas morning by giving to the mitten tree project please visit Benzer Pharmacy in Frazeysburg and select one of the remaining mittens. The deadline to drop off the wishlist items is December 15.
