Obituary: Donald L. “Don” McBride

Donald L. “Don” McBride, 84, of Dresden passed away Wednesday morning, May 25, 2022 surrounded by his loving family at Genesis Hospital in Zanesville, Ohio.

Born February 8, 1938, he was a son of the late William and Margaret (Mattingly) McBride and a 1956 graduate of Jefferson High School. He worked for 27 years at Stone Container in Coshocton and was one of Dresden’s “Local Farmers”. In 1988 he started the career he loved as a bus driver with Tri-Valley Schools. He enjoyed “most” of his students and retired after 20 years of service. Don was an avid hunter his whole life, right up to his death. Don was a family man first and foremost, he was the best.

Survived by his wife and lifelong partner of nearly 65 years, Marsha McBride, whom he married on September 7, 1957 in St. Ann’s Catholic Church; a daughter, Shona Hamilton of Dresden; two grandsons, Jason (Anna) McBride of New Albany and Michael Hamilton of Croton; a granddaughter, Kalee (Alex) Firman of Baltimore, Oh.; his first great granddaughter, Ava Marie Firman, whom he adored; ex son-in-law, Mike Hamilton; several nieces, nephews and sisters-in-law.

In addition to his parents, Don was the last of the original McBride boys, he was preceded in death by, two brothers, Bob and Bill and a sister, Mary.

In keeping with his wishes, a caring cremation has taken place. Funeral Mass will be celebrated 7:00pm on Monday, June 6, 2022 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, 6280 St. Mary’s Road, Nashport, Ohio with Father Ryan Schmidt officiating.
