Alice in Wonder Land

by Alice Stratman Smith

Saturday, June 17th was a great evening to remember because I attended the Jefferson High School Alumni Banquet in Dresden, Ohio. It was an honor for me to be the speaker. When I was preparing for the event I needed a cassette player to listen to the school Alma Mater because my portable player did not work. I asked neighbors, looked at yard sales, went to five stores, and none were available. On the morning of the Banquet, I put the cassette tape in my portable player and it worked! Evidently, I had the tape in wrong. I am so embarrassed that I’m not telling anyone.

As in this title, Alice in Wonder Land, we certainly have much to wonder in the land we live in. Two explanations for ‘wonder’ is: 1. the feeling aroused by something strange, unexpected, etc. 2. to have doubt mingled with curiosity. The weather conditions (hurricane’s, tornadoes, drought, flooding) certainly has us wondering what is going on. I will ask God for guidance and understanding.

There have been many doors opened and closed in my life. I remember a picture in the Dresden United Methodist Church of Jesus standing in front of a door that did not have a door knob. Jesus is knocking at our door and WE open it to let Him guide and direct our lives. Luke 11:10…Everyone who asks receives; all who seek, find; and the door is opened to everyone who knocks…The Living Bible.
