Maysville’s Head Coach Dave Brown wins MVL Big Division Coach of the Year

Maysville’s head coach Dave Brown has been a great fit for the Panthers since taking over the head coach position seven years ago.  Brown graduated from our neighboring county’s Coshocton High School as a First Team All-Ohio basketball player in both his junior and senior years.  After graduation, Brown went on to play basketball for Southern Wesleyan University where he made their all-time records list for the school in free throw percentage averaging over ninety percent in his sophomore year.  Brown finished his education at Muskingum University in New Concord before beginning his coaching career.

Dave dreamed of being a head basketball coach and started his journey as a volunteer assistant coach at John Glenn High School for his first year and then moved on to being an assistant coach at Maysville High School for two years.  In the winter of 2017, Brown took over for head coach Greg Mitts.  Since then the Panthers have been on a steady uphill climb moving from 8th place in the MVL to taking the title last year and sharing the title again this year. To top off this year the Maysville team not only made it to the final four for the first time in over 50 years but they won the State Runner-up trophy.  Brown was named the MVL Big School Division Coach of the Year.

When asked what winning the award meant to coach Brown he stated “It’s a product of having a really good team that wins a lot of games.  It’s an honor because there are a lot of really good coaches in our league, and when you get an award like that, your entire coaching staff helped prepare and helped me out, I have a great staff, so it’s a team award and something I couldn’t just do on my own”
