Zanesville Comic Book Shop Gears Up for Free Comic Book Day on May 4

It’s a bird… It’s a plane… No, it’s free comics! That’s right, Free Comic Book Day is nearly upon us. The event happens on the first Saturday in May annually. This year it coincidently falls on the unofficial holiday Star Wars Day, “May the Fourth”.

Zanesville comic book shop, Mass Media Comics, LLC, owned by Dr. Chad Sinnott, will be celebrating Free Comic Book Day on May 4th from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. by giving every person who comes to the shop three free comic books each while supplies last. Shoppers can choose from a wide selection of just under 50 different books ranging in everything from very appropriately planned Star Wars comics to Marvel, and even kid-centric comics like Monster High and Pokémon. There is something for every age and interest.
Speaking of “something for everyone”… Mass Media Comics boasts a massive array of around 40,000 books spanning eight decades of comic book greatness. There are at least three rooms loaded with books plus a selection of graphic novels, action figures, and other comic-related collectibles. With new comics being released and available at the store every week.

Comic Book Day is celebrated worldwide. The event is a celebration of the hobby of comic book collecting and reading and provides an opportunity for new readers to check out a variety of books to see what interests them. According to the website freecomicbookday.com, it is estimated that more than 2,300 independent comic shops will participate on May 4. Comic book publishers including indie publishers along with big names like Marvel Comics, DC Comics, IDW Publishing, Dark Horse Comics, Image Comics, BOOM! Studios and Dynamite Entertainment make the comics available to these stores.
Different comic book stores celebrate the tradition in their own way. Mass Media Comics will be running specials all day on May 4th including:
• Get three FREE comics per person!
• 40% off back issues, graphic novels, toys, games, and recent releases!
• $3 comics and $5 comics will be $2 each… no limit!
• $2 comics will be 75 cents… no limit!
• Specials on some action figures
• $1 posters!

Exclusions include new comics, comics in subscription pull boxes, on-hold items, supplies, and our few consignment items.

Sinnott is excited to see new and familiar faces on Saturday for Free Comic Book Day. “I’m eager to see what it will look like on Saturday.”

As an extra perk for Buzz readers, Mass Media Comics will be giving two extra comics to anyone who brings in their copy of the Dresden Buzz. That’s five free comics on May 4th!

Mass Media Comics has been in business for nearly 10 years in Zanesville. “I’ve always loved comics and reading,” said Sinnott. “People always want to do one of two things [when they love comic books], either own a store or write and draw comics.”

For the past few years, Sinnott has donated some of the leftover books from Free Comic Book Day to the Muskingum County Public Library System. “The community has been very good to me, they really have,” stated Sinnott.

Regular business hours for Mass Media Comics are Wednesday and Friday from noon to 6 p.m. and Saturday from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. The shop is located at 631 Main Street in Zanesville. You can follow Mass Media Comics on Facebook at facebook.com/massmediacomics.
