MVL Champion TV youth wrestling team send 19 qualifiers to state competition

Tri-Valley Youth Wrestling (K-6) won its fourth consecutive Muskingum Valley League Championship with a perfect 100-point score.  The team crowned 20 individual champions along with multiple placers in almost every weight class.

Adding to the success of the MVL championship, TVYW has 19 OAC State Qualifiers. Several of the wrestlers competing in this year’s tournament are returning state placers chasing a title.  Nine who have qualified in previous years are making a return trip to the State Tournament.

To qualify for the State Tournament, wrestlers must finish in the top four in a District tournament. The State Tournament is held in Youngstown at the Covelli Center on March 28-29.

Club wrestling has changed the landscape of youth wrestling in the past few years.  Youth wrestling is not sanctioned by the OHSAA, so clubs can pull kids from any school in Ohio to build All-Star teams.  This makes it very difficult for Scholastic teams to compete with these large clubs.  Having 19 state qualifiers from one school puts Tri-Valley in a position as one of the best Scholastic programs in the state.

The OAC State Qualifiers this year are: River Pletcher (D1 – 60lb), Lukas Jenkins(D2 – 75lb), Wesson Lillibridge (D2 – 85lb), Ralph Wade (D2 – 120lb), Bain Burkett (D2 – 120lb), Gavin Sowers (D3 – 55lb), Zayden Bice (D3 – 70lb), Porter Stubbs (D3 – 80lb), Holden Lowe (D3 – 80lb), Jaxon Posey (D3 – 85lb), Palmer Ungaro (D4 – 75lb), Karter Taylor (D4 – 85lb), Grant Moore (D4 – 90lb), Levi Watson (D4 – 90), Andyn Steil (D4 – 95lb), Connor Clark (D4 – 100lb), Carter Pusz (D4 – 140lb), Gannin Carpenter (D4 – 140lb), and Parker Mesina (D4 – 180lb).
