Pottery as a Place at The Elk’s Eye Art Market

The second weekend in July will be busy for art in Zanesville, Ohio. The Art Walk that is normally the first Friday of the month in local galleries and retail stores around downtown will be held on July 11th. It is also the weekend of the annual Pottery Lovers event.  Billed as the nation’s longest running gathering of pottery enthusiasts, this event attracts local residents as well as out of town collectors.

The work of local potters and ceramicist is well represented during the Zanesville Art Walk. At The Elk’s Eye Art Market, among the thirty four artists and artisans available, are four local talents- Linda Secrest, Maddy Fraioli, Theresa Dolen and Paul Barton. The art market has many different media available, so it is only natural to include one so beloved by the local community.

The Elk’s Eye Art Market is open four days a week throughout the month, and the artists regularly bring in new selections to shop.  There is great variety in the pottery available. You can find utilitarian works or more contemporary statement pieces. Each potter brings their own voice to the craft, whether it be in the themes displayed, or the processes used- the distinct styles are reflective of who they are as artists and where they are in their journey. Pottery lovers and art collectors of all types are encouraged to check out the market while they are downtown.
