Frazeysburg holds Sparks in the Park in observance of Independence Day

The Frazeysburg Revitalization Association (FRA) and the Frazeysburg Fireworks Committee held a spectacular fireworks show at Frew Park on June 26. Before the sparks flew, an opening event was held with the National Anthem performed by Monica Staley (Schneider), a 2010 Tri-Valley alum, while veterans from the Frazesburg VFW raised the American flag.

“Here at Frazeysburg, we see American values every day: neighbors helping neighbors, families building lives together, volunteers serving for your community, and citizens working to leave the next generation a better place than what they found. As we celebrate this historic anniversary, may we remember the blessing we share, appreciate the freedom we have, and that we enjoy and renew our commitment to the ideals that unite us as Americans,” Mayor Fred Wolford shared during the opening ceremony.

Food trucks, entertainment from a local DJ, and kids’ games were all part of the pre-firework fun during the inaugural Frazeysburg’s Sparks in the Park event. A military tent was also set up featuring poster boards with names honoring all of our servicemen and women from Frazeysburg, Dresden, Adamsville, and Nashville.

“I just love the idea that we’re celebrating our 250th birthday in the United States. I just want the younger generation to understand that they need to step up to the plate and take over where this group right here has developed in taking care of their community and taking care of their country. Somebody has to step in that role when they’re all grown. The group that I’m involved in, the average age is 65 to 70 years old,” explained Wolford. “We need to just start stepping up and taking care of our country and the people in our community.”

“The person that was in charge of the fireworks show was stepping back because he had too much going on, so I stepped up to take over his spot to help take some of the pressure off of him,” said Michele Schneider. “So, I formed a little committee, and there’s only four of us in this little committee, and we all agreed that we need to have something to go on to entertain this little village. So, we agreed to put on a little, not like a carnival, but something like that. So, we got the bounce houses, and then we talked about the food vendors, and so that’s what we did.”

Although fireworks shows at Frew Park have been held in the past, this year the organizers had to make some changes, like charging a small fee for parking, to benefit and prepare for next year’s show.

“These girls work endless hours picking up the money so we can have a fireworks show this year. But we need the community to help also. Which the community has a little bit this time, but you’ve got to understand. We don’t want to charge to come into the park, but we have to charge to get into the park to keep this continuing and getting bigger and bigger and bigger every year,” said Wolford.

The Frazeysburg Fireworks Committee is looking for volunteers to join in the planning of next year’s event. The next monthly committee meeting will be held on July 14 at 7:00 p.m. at town hall. Anyone who has an interest in helping is welcome to attend.
