On Thursday, September 14th, the Lil’ Muskies hit the road for Maysville to face the Lady Panthers on their home field. The evenly weighted teams both held their ground on defense in the first period of play as neither were able to put a score on the board before the intermission.
John Glenn found their stride in the second half of the game as they started to gain ground against Maysville . Sophomore Estelle Mathney found the net for the Lil’ Muskies and put them on the board 1 – 0.
Teammate Junior Riley Zamensky was also instrumental in the victory as she grabbed two goals of her own to top out the scoring at 3 – 0. Sophomore Faith Lemon had one save and will be credited with the shutout.
The girls moved on to Saturday, September 16th where they squared off against non-conference foes the West Holmes Knights.
Right out of the gate the Knights were on the attack grabbing their first goal only five minutes into the match putting West Holmes up 1 – 0 off of a kick by Allie McMillen with an assist from Avery Arnold.
The two teams continued to battle but ten minutes later Allie McMillen shot another ball to the net to bump the West Holmes lead up to 2 – 0.
Just over one minute later Averee Troyer off of an assist by Allie McMillen fires off a shot to the net lighting the scoreboard up at 3 – 0.
The Lil’ Muskies tried to mount a comeback at the end of the first half and landed one goal from Riley Zamensky going into the intermission to cut the lead down a little but finished the half down 3 – 1.
After halftime the Knights locked up the Tri-Valley offense completely and Charlie Murphy scored the final goal of the game closing it out at 4 – 1.
The goal keeper for John Glenn was Faith Lemon with 9 saves off of 13 shots, while West Holmes Brianna Parks had 5 saves off 6 shots.
John Glenn’s next game will be Thursday, September 28th at home, gametime is 7:30pm against West Muskingum.
