Maysville and Tri-Valley swim teams broke school records with OHSAA State Swim Meet Qualifications

Maysville’s Head Swim Coach, Theresa Baughman, freshman Paige Calendine, and junior Leila Hawk at State swim meet.

Maysville High School junior Leila Hawk qualified for OHSAA State Swim Finals by setting a school record in the 500-yard Freestyle at the State Prelims on Thursday, February 28th. Hawk recorded her 3rd fastest time of the season, finishing 16th in the state. She also finished 29th in the 200-yard Freestyle in state competition. In doing so, she became the first Maysville swimmer in school history to qualify for the OHSAA State Swim Finals.

Freshman teammate Paige Calendine qualified for and competed in her first OHSAA swimming championship. In the 50-Yard Freestyle Para, Calendine beat her personal record time by nearly two seconds to earn a third-place finish. In the 100-Yard Backstroke Para, Paige earned a 5th-place finish. 

Seven Maysville athletes qualified for the District Meet at Ohio University on February 20th. Junior Grace Rush finished 24th in the 200-yard Individual Medley and 24th in the 100-yard butterfly. Freshman Evan James finished 26th in the 200-yard Freestyle and 22nd in the 500 Yard Freestyle. The women’s relay team of Madison Hirtle, Olivia Rusnak, Grace Rush, and Leila Hawk took 12th place in the 400-yard Freestyle Relay, breaking a school record, and finished 18th in the 200-yard Medley Relay to break another school record. 

The Women’s team placed 13th at the District meet and scored 39 points, both new school records. It was the second straight year that Maysville was represented at the state swim meet.

Tri-Valley swim team broke six school records this season, with new records set in the Mens 200-yard Freestyle Relay, the Mens 200-yard IM Relay, and the Mens 100-yard Breaststroke Relay.  Also, the 200-yard Medley Relay and the 400-yard Freestyle Relay qualified for state for the first time for Tri-Valley.

AJ Lawler qualified for the 200-yard IM and the 100-yard Backstroke, while teammate Garrett Stirling qualified for the 200-yard Freestyle and the 100-yard Butterfly. The Scotties had podium finishes for each event and the 200-yard Freestyle Relay.

Overall, the team finished 3rd behind Columbus Academy and Granville with their best finish ever.
