Nine-year-old Isla Harris is proving that you are never too young to turn a creative idea into a small business. She founded Doh-Doh Creations with her mom, Trista, last year. Their at-home craft business creates homemade sensory playdough kits. Each kit is created around a specific theme like space, construction, reptiles, farm, ocean, mermaid, unicorn, etc.
There are currently about 15 kits available in two sizes, small and large. The small kits are priced at $7 each, and the large ones are $20. They come with dough, small toys, and objects that all match the kit’s theme. The dough is non-toxic and suitable for all ages. The pieces that often come in the kits are too small for children under the age of three, as their packaging states; however, special accommodations can be made when placing a custom order to have larger age-appropriate pieces included.
“My little cousins wanted like a Fourth of July themed [play dough kit]. So, we made it, and it was a lot of fun to make it. So, we continued to make it, and now here we are!” said Isla.

Isla and her mom started the business last June and have been enjoying sharing their products with families by attending various craft shows and events since. They participated in a couple of farmers’ markets over the summer: Riverfest, Duncan Falls Car Show, the Licking County Women of Small Business event, and the first annual Holiday Vendor Market & Festive Fun Event at Weatherington Woods, just to name a few.
For 2026, the duo plans to continue to set up at more craft and vendor events. Additionally, Isla is looking forward to introducing new themes and possibly adding her pom-pom creations to her offerings.
“I think for the future, we’re still going to sell playdough, but I’m going to make all the themes that I have then, I’m going to make pom-pom creations of the themes. And if somebody gets a theme, for example, mermaid, they can get a mermaid pom-pom with it,” explained Isla.
Custom orders are welcome. Isla wants to create special kits for birthday parties to hand out as favors that will match the party theme, as well as custom event-themed kits. For Valentine’s Day, Doh-Doh Creations can create special orders of mini dough kits to hand out in place of a valentine card.
Isla had this to say about what she likes about her small business: “You make a lot of money, and it makes kids happy.”
