Muskingum University Softball Split their weekend doubleheaders on both days

Muskingum vs Case Western Reserve (3/24)

When put up against the Spartans, the Muskies were ready for another win but the pitching team for Case Western proved to be more challenging than they had hoped.  The Muskies grabbed a run in the first inning to take a 1 – 0 lead but the Spartans tied the game in the bottom of the second at 1 – 1.  After two scoreless innings, the Spartans pulled out two runs in the bottom of the fifth to lead the game 3 – 1.  Unfortunately for the Muskies they were unable to recover from the deficit and faced a loss at the hands of Case Western.

The Fighting Muskies will be back on their home field on Saturday, April 6th for a doubleheader against Ohio Northern followed by a doubleheader against Wilmington at home on Sunday both days the first game starts at 1 pm.

Muskingum vs Wooster (3/24)

The Muskies traveled to Wooster on Sunday afternoon to play at Galpin Park.  In the first game of the day they faced the Fighting Scots of Wooster.  The first inning of the game set the tone for sure with Sadie Smith doubling to left field to bring in Kalie Eshelman, Rosie Hayes, and Cara Taylor. Natalie Smith singled next to bring in Sadie, followed by Eliana Shaheen doubling to left to bring home Natalie.  Morgan Layne stepped up to bat and hit a single through the left field side that allowed Tareyn Born to score.  Next up was Cara Taylor who singled up the middle to bring home Shaheen.  Rosie Hayes also singled up the middle to bring Layne in, and wrapping up the nine-run top of the first inning was Kalie Eshelman grounding into a double play but not before Cara Taylor scored.  Wooster battled back from the first through the fourth inning to gain 5 runs.  In the top of the sixth inning, Muskingum capped their scoring with a Sadie Smith singling bringing in Olivia Rapol, Kalie Eshelman, and Rosie Hayes to end the score at 12.  Wooster was able to reach seven points by the bottom of the seventh but walked away with a 12 – 7 loss on their record. 

Muskingum vs Alma Game 2 (3/23) 

For game two of the doubleheader against the Otters the Muskies took the lead in the first inning, but this time Alma came back to grab three runs in the to of the second inning to take the lead for themselves at 3 – 1.  But by the end of the fourth inning, the Muskies had taken back the game and were leading by a score of 9 – 3.  Alma landed five runs in the fifth inning but the Muskies had a seven-run rally that totaled their score at 16 to Alma’s 8 splitting the doubleheader.

Muskingum vs Alma Game 1 (3/23)

The Otters hopped on a bus to New Concord Saturday to come to visit the fighting Muskies.  From the start, it looked like Muskingum had the game in the bag as they racked up a 3 – 0 lead in the bottom of the first inning, a lead they would hold onto until the top of the fourth inning when Alma came to life and lit up the scoreboard for a four-run inning taking a 6 – 3 lead.  The Muskies landed another run in the bottom of the seventh inning but it was too late and Alma grabbed a 6 – 4 victory in game 1 of the doubleheader.
