Scotties softball look to improve season start with a double header against Granville Saturday

Gracie Hutton lined up a strike for Tri-Valley as they took on Maysville

Vs. Maysville (3/26)

On a Thursday trip to Maysville, the Lady Panthers stepped up in the first inning to grab an 8 – 0 lead. Tri-Valley scored three runs in the top of the second inning, with Moreland crossing the plate on a wild pitch and Ally Peterson scoring on a single by Reffitt, and trailed 11 – 6 after three innings. In the top of the fourth inning, the Scotties rallied for 12 runs, including a homer by Tyson and a triple by Gerran Matthews to lead 18 – 11, backed by a shutout in the bottom of the inning and 11 runs in the top of the fifth to lead and eventually win 29 – 13.

After losing two games to John Glenn early in the week, the Scotties have a 2 – 4 overall record and are looking to improve that as they face West M on Thursday, and host Granville at home on Saturday for a double header starting at 12 PM.

Vs. Dover (3/25)

Tri-Valley traveled to Dover on Wednesday to face the Tornadoes on their home field. Dover jumped out to a one-run lead at the end of the first inning, and followed it with a run in the bottom of each of the next two innings to lead 3 – 0. The Scotties couldn’t get a run in the next two innings, and with the Tornadoes adding two runs in the fourth and six runs in the bottom of the fifth, the game ended with an 11 – 0 loss for Tri-Valley.

Vs. New Philadelphia Doubleheader (3/21)

The Scotties hosted the Lady Quakers on Saturday in Kenny Wolford Park for a doubleheader. Game one started with New Philadelphia getting a one-run jump off a groundout by Gonzalez that allowed Miller to score. Miller compounded the lead for New Phila in the second inning with a pop fly that drove in Cervantes and Sweitzer. The Scotties nabbed their first run in the bottom of the fifth with a run by Camden Tyson off of a fielder’s choice hit by Tessa Green. Green scored again in the bottom of the seventh, but it was too little too late as the Scotties fell to the Quakers 5 – 2.

In game two, New Philadelphia started the game off with two runs in the top of the first inning, but the Lady Dawgs answered back in the bottom of the inning with Tyson hitting a single to drive in Alivia Reffitt, followed by a sacrifice bunt by Larsyn Holdsworth that brought in Joelle Moreland for the tying run to end the inning at 2 – 2. The Quakers had a three-run third inning, but the Scotties picked up one run per inning in the second through fourth to tie the game again at 5 by the end of the fourth inning. New Phila took the lead back with two runs in the fifth inning, and held that lead until the bottom of the seventh when Moreland scored on a sacrifice by Green and Gabby Prati scored on a sacrifice from Lauren Leas to win the game 8 – 7.
