Zanesville Post 29 Senior Legion battled the heat from the mound and Mother Nature

Tre Butcher mid-transition on a throw to first for the Zanesville Post 29 Senior Legion.

Vs. Parkersburg, WV Post 15 18O (7/4)

Parkersburg hosted Zanesville Post 29 Senior Legion on Saturday. Parkersburg came out swinging, with four runs in the bottom of the first to lead 4- 0; they added two more at the bottom of the second, 6 – 0. Zanesville answered with a run in the top of the third, but Post 15 continued building their advantage in the bottom of the inning with four more runs to lead 10 – 1. Post 29 had two final runs in the top of the fifth, but by the end of the inning, they were sent home with a 13 – 3 loss. 

Vs. Marietta Post 64 Sr Legion (7/4)

Back at Gant Municipal Stadium in Zanesville, the Senior Legion hosted Marietta Post 64 Senior Legion on the fourth of July. Marietta grabbed three runs in the top of the first inning, and three more in the top of the second to lead 6 – 0 . After four runs by Marietta in the top of the third, 10 – 0, Post 29 grabbed a run in the bottom of the inning but still trailed 10 – 1. Marietta added three more runs by the end of the fifth inning and took a 13 – 1 win over Zanesville.

Vs. Cambridge/Belle Valley Post 84/641 (7/2)

On the road in Cambridge on Thursday, Zanesville Post 29 Senior Legion jumped out to a 2 – 0 lead after the first inning, and doubled their lead in the top of the second, 4 – 0. Cambridge answered back in the bottom of the second with three runs, but still trailed 4 – 3. Post 84/641 tied the game in the bottom of the third inning, 4 – 4. In the bottom of the fourth, Cambridge jumped ahead for the first time in the game with two runs to lead, 6 – 4, and blasted into a mercy ruling after an eight-run fifth inning to win 14 – 4.

Vs. New Philadelphia Post 139 (7/2)

Zanesville hosted the Black Sox from New Philadelphia Post 139 on Thursday. The Black Sox pulled off three runs in the top of the first to lead right away, 3 – 0. Zanesville responded with a run in the bottom of the inning but still trailed, 3 – 1. Post 29 added another run in the second, 3 – 2. New Phila added to their advantage with a run in the top of the third, 4 – 1. Post 29 Senior Legion tied the game and jumped ahead with four runs in the bottom of the third to take a 6 – 4 advantage of their own. Post 29 bolstered their lead to 8 – 4 in the bottom of the sixth, and despite a two-run response from New Phila, Zanesville took the 8 – 6 win.
