Vs. Strasburg-Franklin (2/27)
Bishop Rosecrans High School hosted the Strasburg-Franklin Tigers on Friday for a tournament game. The Bishops started off strong, taking a 13 – 9 lead at the end of the first quarter. The Tigers fired back in the second period, tying up the game and jumping out to a 22 – 21 lead at the halftime buzzer.
As play resumed, the Bishops tied up the game; from there, the lead was traded back and forth to both sides of the court, ending the third quarter in a stalemate at 33 points each. In the final minutes of the game, the two teams were neck and neck before the Tigers pulled out ahead by four points as the final buzzer rang, giving them a 43 – 39 win, ending Rosecran’s season.
Sophomore Brody Boothe scored 11 points for the Bishops, and senior teammate Owen Lambert had 10 points.
The Bishops end the season with a 17 – 6 overall record and a Mid-State Cardinal Title with a 13 – 1 record.
Vs. Wellington School (2/20)
The Wellington Jaguars traveled to Zanesville on Friday to face the Bishops in Rogge Gymnasium. From the starting whistle, the Bishops were all over the ball, taking a 14 – 9 lead at the end of the first quarter. Rosecrans powered forward in the second period with another 14 points to lead at halftime 28 – 16.
The intermission only reaffirmed the drive for the Bishops as they came out of the locker room to pump out a 21-point quarter to end the third up 49 – 29. The final minutes of the game were a constant barrage of points from the Bishops that the Jaguars couldn’t slow down, falling to Rosecrans 71 – 43.
The Bishop’s top scorers, sophomore Brody Boothe and senior Tyler Bernett, each had 22 points.
