A local, longstanding business is celebrating a major milestone this year – 100 years in business!
The Young Insurance Agency, Inc. was incorporated in 1926 under the ownership of C.M. “Brigham” Young. The business was later purchased by Thomas J. Price in 1930. His son, Thomas L. Price, joined the company in 1964 and, 33 years later, became the president of the company, a role that he still holds to this day. His daughter, Lynnell Price-Hankinson, started with the agency in 1992 and is currently the vice president.
The Young name is not the only thing that has stayed the same over the past century; the tradition of providing excellent customer service, quality protection, and low rates remains a priority.
“[I’m] proud of the past and looking forward to the future,” stated company President Thomas L. Price. “We’ve been very, very fortunate. We’re appreciative – we’re in the people business, we’re not in the insurance business, we’re in the people business.”
Young Insurance is an independent insurance agency that offers home, auto, business, and life insurance.
The original office for Young Insurance was located in the Masonic Temple Building. They moved in 1995 to an office building less than a block away, next to the Secrest Auditorium. When the city needed the space for the auditorium’s expansion project, they decided to relocate to a brand new location at 1239 Linden Avenue, Zanesville. The space, which is around 2,400 square feet, is modern and welcoming; perfect for the next chapter in the company’s history.
‘It’s a refreshing year, you know, being 100 years,” said Pam Ufholz, secretary/treasurer and 30-year employee at Young Insurance.
With a member of the third generation of the Price family helping to bring the company into the next 100 years, and a closely knit work family, Young Insurance knows the value of keeping what’s important protected through assisting the community with their insurance needs.
“The Price family has been in Zanesville at least six generations. And just a perpetuation of, although we’re the last of the family, there are no more Prices that are our family here in Zanesville. They had all moved away over those generations. But just the pride that the name still exists. And obviously, with Pam and Lynnell, it’s going to continue. Because they’ll make it go.”
