Vs. Wilmington doubleheader (4/1)
The Fighting Muskies made their presence known on Tuesday in Wilmington as they swept up the Quakers, outscoring them 20 – 9 overall.
In game one, the Muskies jumped out to a 2 – 0 lead in the top of the 3rd inning, building that lead to 6 – 1 by the end of the 4th. The Quakers battled back to tie up the game by the end of the 7th inning with the teams at 6 – 6, but Muskingum rallied in the final inning for five runs to take game one 11 – 7.
Game two had a faster pace as the Muskies’ batting lineup was already warm, and they landed a run in the first inning but the Quakers answered back with a run to tie the game 1 – 1 before Muskingum threw down three more runs in the second inning to jump out to a 4 – 1 lead. That lead increased to 7 – 1 by the end of the 5th inning. Wilmington nabbed one more run before the game was over, but with two more runs in the top of the 7th, Muskingum locked in the sweep with a 9 – 2 win.
The Fighting Muskies will travel to Ohio Northern on Saturday to face the Polar Bears in a doubleheader starting at 1 PM.
Vs. John Carroll doubleheader (3/29)
New Concord hosted the John Carroll Blue Streaks on Donna J. Newberry Field on Saturday to a double shutout sweep.
Game one had the Muskies fire off seven runs in the 1st inning and follow that up with another run in the bottom of the 3rd inning to take an 8 – 0 lead. The Muskie batters handed out three more runs to finish the 4th inning. The Blue Streaks were unable to get a run in and fell to Muskingum 11 – 0.
The Muskies popped off one run in the bottom of the 1st inning in game two and built on that lead with another run in the 3rd, 2 – 0. The 4th inning saw the Muskies take a blast forward as they laid down four more runs to take a 6 – 0 lead. Muskingum wrapped up the sweep in the bottom of the 6th with two final runs to seal the deal for the day at 8 – 0.
For the series, the Muskies finished with 51 at-bats, 19 runs, 22 hits, 14 RBI, and seven stolen bases. Cara Taylor and Natalie Smith each had two runs apiece.
