Maysville High School hosted the visiting Coshocton Redskins on Friday, September 1st. No one knew what to expect as both teams came to the matchup without a win on their record thus far. The Panthers made if very clear early on that they were going to change their record for the better.
From the start Maysville took control of the ball and pushed past the Redskin defenses racking up 21 points by the end of the first quarter while stifling the Coshocton offense the entire time.
The second quarter of the game brought more punishment of the Redskins as #2 Junior Quarterback Mathew Harper hit #8 Senior Tyler Debolt with a pass to run for a 22-yard touchdown launching their lead to 28 – 0 against Coshocton.
Just before the end of the first half Maysville started another push for the endzone ending with Harper running the ball in a quarterback keeper for a 33-yard touchdown and 35 – 0 lead. Coshocton was able to grab a touchdown before the half was over but still went to the intermission down 35 – 7.
When the two teams made their way back to the field the Panthers went right back to their task as #7 Senior Wesley Armstead grabbed a ball out of the air intended for a Redskin receiver and barrelled down the field for a 43-yard touchdown leaving the score at 41 – 7 Maysville.
The final score for Maysville came near the end of the third quarter when quarterback Harper blasted a pass to Armstead for a 63-yard touchdown that brought down the house and finished the scoring for the Panthers who were up 48 – 7.
Before the end of the third quarter, the Redskins were able to land one more touchdown but went home empty handed as the Maysville Panthers won the night with a 48 – 13 victory!
The Panthers face the Scotties on Friday, September 8th at Jack Anderson Stadium in Dresden. Game time is set for 7pm.
