Panthers take aim at 2nd State Title as they knock down East Liverpool

West Holmes joins Maysville in a post-game prayer circle.

Vs. East Liverpool (3/3)

On the road in Belmont on Tuesday, playing at the East Central Ohio Educational Service Center, the Panthers met up with the East Liverpool Potters again this year. The Panthers jumped into the game with both feet as they pulled past the Potters to take a 23 – 18 lead at the end of the first quarter. By the end of the first half, Maysville had all but halted East Liverpool’s offense, leaving them with a 38 – 23 deficit at the break.

As the game continued, so did the shutdown of the Potters’ offense as the Panthers controlled the ball and the court with a 50 – 26 lead before the end of the third period. East Liverpool played as if stunned by the speed and intensity put forth by Maysville, as they took a 78 – 32 victory to continue on their playoff journey.

Vs. West Holmes (2/27)

Maysville hosted the West Holmes Nights on Friday. The Knights knew who they were up against and were hoping to have a fighting chance. In the first minutes of the game, the teamwork and overall understanding of what each player is to do on the court proved why the Panthers are the current State Champions, as they climbed to a 21 – 4 lead over the Knights. Not giving West Holmes any time to breathe and regroup, the Panthers continued their climb, amassing a 44 – 9 advantage before the halftime break.

The Knights spent the break trying to build a strategy to get past the Panthers’ defenses, and at the start of the third quarter, they worked some of those strategies to limited success, but all the while, the Panthers were still building, and they led at the end of the period 64 – 21. The last minutes played out like seconds for the Knights as they watched Maysville rise to a 73 – 32 point victory to start their postseason. At the end of the game, players and coaches from both teams gathered in the center of the floor for a prayer circle to end the night.
