Post 29 Junior Legion split a doubleheader with Cambridge Post 84/641 as they move toward season end

Vs. Cambridge/Belle Valley Jr Post 84/641 (7/3)

In game one of a doubleheader at Gant Municipal Stadium in Zanesville Friday, Post 29 Jr Legion battled it out with Cambridge/Belle Valley. Cambridge came out swinging, with five quick runs in the first inning to take the 5 – 0 advantage, which they continued to build in the top of the second and third innings seemingly unhindered, with a 15 – 0 lead as Zanesville answered back in the bottom of the third to break the shutout, but still trailed 15 – 1. After a scoreless fourth inning, Cambridge came back in the top of the fifth to land eight final runs and win game one 23 – 1. 

Game two started with no score in the first inning. After Cambridge landed a run in the top of the second, Zanesville was determined to flip the script from game one in the bottom of the inning, with Carter Hittle and Weston Warden scoring on an error followed by a double by Jeremiah Griffith that drove in Mason Wickham and Gavin Newell for a 4 – 1 lead. In the bottom of the third, Bronc Burkey scored on an error by the Cambridge pitcher, 5 – 1. Noah Cornett scored on a passed ball to end the inning up 6 – 1. Post 84/641 almost built a tying rally in the top of th fourth, with four runs, but still trailed 6 – 5. A single by Danny Shipley drove in Wickham for Post 29’s final run, and despite a final run by Cambridge, the Post 29 Jr Legion split the doubleheader with a game two win 7 – 6. 

Vs. Glouster Post 414 (7/1)

In Glouster on Wednesday, Post 29 Jr Legion took on Post 414. After a slow start, Glouster grabbed the first run in the bottom of the second inning to lead 1 – 0. The third and fourth innings went by with no score before Post 414 pumped out eight runs in the bottom of the fifth and one more in the bottom of the sixth to win the game with a 10 – 0 shutout. 

Vs. Cambridge/Belle Valley Jr Post 84/641 (6/30)

While visiting Cambridge on Tuesday, Post 29 fell behind in the bottom of the first inning as Post 84/641 got out to a 2 – 0 lead. Zanesville finally answered by tying the game and jumping ahead by two in the top of the third inning, 4 – 2. Cambridge came right back and scored three to get back on top 5 – 4. Post 29 Jr Legion roared back with five runs in the top of the fourth to take back over 9 – 5; they jumped up 14 – 5 after the top of the sixth, where they grabbed five more runs. Cambridge capped their score in the bottom of the inning with three runs, but they could not overcome Zanesville’s lead, and Post 29 took a 17 – 8 final win after seven.
