Village Pizzeria & Kitchen, a locally owned restaurant located in Frazeysburg, continues to expand – providing a broader range of menu items, a dining and gathering space, a deli, and most recently, Village Market Days.
During Village Market Days held at Village Pizzeria & Kitchen twice a month on select Saturdays through October from 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m., attendees can expect a community market that brings local farmers, bakers, artisans, makers, musicians, and small businesses together.
The market was created by Village Pizzeria & Kitchen owner Jalene Walton and Village Market Days coordinator Sam Martin of Wild Heart Wonders, a local business specializing in all-natural, non-toxic tallow-based products.
The market promotes shopping locally and supporting the community. Locally produced foods, fresh baked goods, handcrafted items, home décor, candles, skincare products, pet treats, custom products, and specialty goods are all represented.
Some of the participating vendors are: Wild Heart Wonders, T&B Outdoors Co., Walking Limb Tree Service, Everett Farms & Dairy, Olde Village Meats, Bread of Life Grains, Cookie Jar Desserts by Erica, Humphr3D LLC, Fresh Prints & Gifts, Mae & Jae Tea Co., J&J’s Candle Cafe, and SOAP HUT. Additionally, these vendors have confirmed attending both markets in June: The Flour & Daughter, Monica’s Homemade Goodies, Haines Bake Goods, Old Hickory Sweets, Double Shot Espresso Company, Husky Hill Honey Co., Floral Nonsense, The Living Garden, Bark & Thread LLC, Crafted Curiosities, Alpine Adornments, and Arrow Valley Farms.
Vendor applications are still being accepted.
“We’re always open to people trying and people that have never done it. We don’t want people to be discouraged or scared,” said Martin. “Come, we’ll help you. You know, like we all started somewhere. So it’s a perfect place for that too. It shouldn’t be too overwhelming for new people just thinking about setting up a table. Come, you know, there are spots are $25, or if they do like the two in the same month, it’s $40, you know, for the month. So it’s reasonable, you know, for people just to give it a shot.”
The market strives to offer a variety of products and is looking for vendors who offer honey, fresh cut flowers, produce and farm fresh products, candles, jarred goods like pickles and jams, leather goods, and homemade and unique items.
“We really want to focus the market on being local, handmade, handcrafted,” explained Walton. “The whole point of the market is to bring value to this community, especially, you know, obviously, with Frazeysburg, there’s nothing around. And so to be able to bring stuff like that to this community and not have to travel to Newark or to Zanesville or whatever, you know, it provides a value to them.”
Besides supporting small businesses, creators, and farmers, Village Market Days also hopes to provide a place for local musicians to perform. “[We’re looking for] people that would be interested in playing their guitar, you know, doesn’t have to be the whole time, just for an hour, just to give them an opportunity to put their music out there and give people something nice to listen to,” said Martin.

Since opening, Village Pizzeria has been all about community. At the new location, there is a large dining area that will accommodate large groups.
“We wanted to create a space that we refer to ourselves as the village, and our community and town as the village as well. So another aspect of having the dining area is being able to see, again, the community come in on a Friday night and run into their neighbors, run into their friends, pushing tables together, hanging out, and just sharing a meal and laughing and just having a good time. And that’s really what this space has been for us. And what we really wanted to create and we wanted from the very beginning,” explained Walton.

A deli was also added. “We don’t have to go to Zanesville to get lunch, meat and cheese, and to keep things fresh, especially with the economy right now,” added Walton.
Fresh-made-in-house deli salads, specials of the day (pastas, soups), sandwiches, and baked goods have all been added to the menu. A couple of other newer additions are handmade Stromboli and wings.
