The Downtown Exchange Artisans Market to begin this April

A new event featuring arts, crafts, and food will be coming to downtown Zanesville starting this April. The Downtown Exchange Artisans Market, or DTXAM for short, held the first Friday of every month and the Saturday after, April through December, promises to offer “a unique shopping experience featuring quality Ohio makers and artisans”. The market will open at 5:00 p.m. on Fridays and will close at 9:00 p.m., on Saturdays, the hours will be 11:00 a.m. until 3:00 p.m. The event, as the name suggests, will be held in The Downtown Exchange, 527 Main Street, Zanesville.

“The Downtown Exchange Artisans Market in Zanesville, Ohio, will strive to offer unique, quality, and on-trend handmade products.  These shopping experiences will focus on creating opportunities to expand on the niche of community, supporting local small artisan businesses and good food,” explained the Director of the Downtown Exchange Artisan Market, Kathy German. “The vision is to create an atmosphere of exceptional hand-crafted products with the DTX food, casual and unhurried shopping, laughter, sipping on something good, and enjoying the entire unique experience.  The anticipation is that customers will return with family and friends, allowing for constant growth while supporting their favorite Artisans and DTX Restaurants.”

Restaurants currently in the DTX include The Rustic Slice, Tacology, Bee Sweet Desserts & Eats, Chapman’s Coffee House, Zane’s Bites, Hayai Hibachi, Taste of Greece, and The Lucky Jupiter.

Some vendor types that the market hopes to attract include beads and glass art, candles and fragrances, ceramics and pottery, jewelry, herbal and botanical products, leather and baskets, charcoal or pastel drawings, metalwork, mixed media, painting or prints, photography, woodworking, upcycled and recycled art, textiles and yarn crafts, and stationery and paper goods.

“The definition of an Artisan is ‘a worker in a skilled trade, especially one that involves making things by hand’.  All of our vendors will be Artisans of a wide variety of mediums.  Shoppers may find handmade candles, pottery, photography, jewelry, paintings, and or flower arrangements.  The vendor selection may also vary from month to month, allowing for variety and the opportunity to promote different Artisans,” German stated.

The complete list of dates for the event is:

  • April 3 & 4
  • May 1 & 2
  • June 5 & 6
  • July 3 & 4
  • August 7 & 8
  • September 4 & 5
  • October 2 & 3
  • November 6 & 7
  • December 4 & 5

“First Fridays are always a very busy time for downtown Zanesville. The idea to collaborate and expand on First Friday by adding First Saturday and promoting small businesses/Artisans throughout southeastern and central Ohio was the natural next step. The DTXAM is honored to showcase and to focus on the amazing Artisans that make Zanesville, Ohio creative,” explained German.

DTXAM will be a juried market focusing on small businesses in southeastern and central Ohio. Vendor spaces are currently available, and anyone interested is encouraged to apply at downtown-exchange.com/DTXAM. Deadlines for applications are the 20th of the month prior to each set of market dates, allowing enough time for the jury process and notifications to be made. Questions or concerns can be submitted through the DTX website or by sending an email to kathygerman999@gmail.com.
